Mark the slit before choosing the border

A side slit has an opening point, two moving edges and a hem junction. Mark these on the garment drawing rather than sending a straight trim photograph alone. State whether the decoration follows both edges or only the visible outer edge. A border that looks balanced on a closed garment may overlap when the panels move apart.

Decide what happens at the upper end

Lay a real repeat beside the slit start. Compare ending with a complete motif, leaving a plain interval or using a separate finishing piece if one is available. Ask the sewing team to mark the attachment area. Do not assume the most decorative part can also carry the stress at the opening; the garment construction needs its own assessment.

Inspect the sample open and in motion

Photograph the sample closed, partly open and fully spread to the intended position. Check whether motifs catch each other, turn outward or expose an unfinished reverse. Include the hem corner in the same inspection. If the two sides need matching flowers, record their starting points separately so the cutter does not simply use consecutive lengths from a roll.

Send a placement brief with the enquiry

Select candidate references in the catalogue and send the slit drawing with your copied enquiry. Give the garment sizes, number of openings per garment and the required visible border width. Ask for confirmation of usable length and repeat before calculating the order. Keep the accepted slit sample identifiable so later production can reproduce the same finishing arrangement.

  • Slit start, moving edges and hem junction marked.
  • Open-position photos and matching motif starts.
  • Approved ending and usable-length confirmation.
