Draw the opening and flap separately

A decoration centred on a pocket photograph may cross the actual hand-entry line. Mark the opening, flap fold, side seams and visible face on a drawing. State whether the pocket is functional or decorative. Send the drawing at the intended garment size so a supplier can discuss the motif dimensions without guessing from a cropped fashion image.

Keep the usable entry visible

Position the sample on an assembled pocket and try the intended opening action. Look for loose projections across the entry, hidden attachment points and decoration folded under the flap. The required clearance depends on the pocket and trim together. Approve that relationship on the sample instead of applying one standard spacing to every design.

Make left and right pocket choices explicit

For a pair of pockets, compare the two motifs facing forward on the garment. Decide whether they mirror, face the same way or use a deliberately different arrangement. Record the chosen piece beside each pocket label. If the catalogue family contains several shapes, identify the exact photographs; a family reference alone may not define a complete matching pocket set.

Request a complete pocket trial

List the quantity per garment and whether you need individual appliqués, a paired set or a length cut into two borders. Ask about the chosen variant and any unconfirmed dimensions. Include an open-pocket photograph in approval feedback. The useful decision is whether the finished pocket works and looks right, rather than whether the unsewn decoration fits inside a rectangle.
