Remove the screen-zoom advantage

Two product images displayed at the same size may show very different physical motif sizes. Ask for measured dimensions and use an actual-size paper outline or sample on the garment pattern. Compare the complete garment view before judging close-up detail. A flower that dominates a product tile may be a small accent when placed at its real size.

Count complete motifs in the visible area

Mark the boundaries of a cuff, front panel or pocket and count how many full motifs fit between them. Note any partial flower at an end. Compare a larger motif with a smaller repeat using the same boundaries. This reveals whether the desired effect relies on one focal flower or a continuous rhythm, and where cutting choices change that effect.

Compare the sizes your buyers actually order

Repeat the placement on representative garment sizes rather than assuming the smallest sample represents the whole range. A fixed appliqué may sit differently relative to the seam or neckline on another size. Ask the design team which relationships must remain constant and which may vary. Keep this scale decision separate from any unconfirmed ability to resize the product itself.

Send a scale comparison, not just a preference

Shortlist references with a note such as one complete motif across this panel or a repeated border within this width. Attach the marked placement and request exact measurements before sample selection. If an alternative is proposed, compare it in the same outline. This gives a wholesaler a repeatable buying decision instead of a vague request for something more impressive.

  • Actual motif dimensions replace screen-image scale.
  • Full and partial motifs counted inside the placement.
  • Representative garment sizes compared consistently.
