Give the decoration a defined area

A kaftan brief becomes easier to source when it shows where decoration is allowed. Draw the neckline opening and front-panel boundary on the pattern. Mark whether the decoration stops at the chest or continues towards the hem. Keep room for a slit or fastening. This separates the garment's required shape from the attractive outline of a catalogue neckline piece.

Compare scale at garment size

Print a measured outline or position the physical sample at actual size. Judge the neckline and front border together from a normal viewing distance. A dense central motif can compete with a wide border; a small repeat may disappear on a large front panel. Make the decision on the complete layout rather than choosing each component independently from close-up photographs.

Resolve transitions in the sample

Where a neckline appliqué meets a continuous trim, decide which piece overlaps and where stitching can run. Check that an added layer does not leave an unexpected ridge on the intended cloth. Ask the sewing team to photograph the front and reverse of the junction. If two parts cannot meet neatly, compare a deliberate gap or a different border width before approving the order.

Quote a coordinated layout

Select references from neckline appliqués and embroidered trims, then list the quantity of each component per garment. Include the base fabric, opening dimensions and an annotated placement image. Ask which colours and widths can be supplied for those exact references. Visual coordination does not establish that the components share a material, finish or minimum order condition.

  • Neck opening and front-panel boundaries.
  • Full-size motif arrangement and junction sample.
  • Separate reference and consumption for each component.
