Measure the sewn hem path
Use the size pattern that production will actually cut. Measure along the intended attachment line, including any opening returns, rather than across a folded garment. A flared hem can need much more trim than a straight one. Keep measurements by garment size so a wholesale quantity estimate reflects the planned size mix instead of multiplying one convenient sample measurement.
Hang the decorated sample
Test a meaningful section on the intended cloth and hang it in the garment's normal direction. Look at the undecorated area above the border, not only the stitching line. Decide whether the added structure gives the desired silhouette or changes it too much. Compare the same section while walking or gently moving it; a flat table view cannot show the finished movement.
Keep the pattern at openings deliberate
Mark the first and last visible motif at a side slit or front opening. Check whether the pattern ends cleanly and whether the two sides should match. Use a trial cutting layout to identify offcuts that remain useful for smaller details. Do not count every remainder as reusable: its direction, complete motif and backing condition must suit the next placement.
Separate the design and quantity questions
Send the selected trim reference, widest finished hem, attachment position and sample requirement. Then provide the size distribution and consumption sheet for a quantity discussion. Ask for confirmed roll lengths, join information and packing details. This gives the supplier useful information without treating a ruler photograph or a broad colour label as a complete production specification.
