Treat shade names as a shortlist
White, ivory and cream are useful browsing descriptions, but they do not define the same shade across suppliers or product references. A pale appliqué may also combine differently coloured ground, thread and decoration. Pick the exact variant from the product gallery and identify which component should match the garment. Do not approve a bulk colour by the category filter alone.
Evaluate the complete fabric stack
Lay the trim over the garment cloth with the intended lining beneath it. Photograph the materials together rather than comparing separate phone images. Pale mesh can look different over an opaque layer and a sheer area. Keep an overall placement view to judge the visible contrast and a close view to record the actual combination selected by the buyer.
Check under agreed lighting
Compare the physical samples under consistent lighting and then under another light relevant to the finished garment. Two materials can appear to match in one light and differ in another, a colour phenomenon known as metamerism. Note the lighting used for approval instead of trying to settle the decision through edited images. Keep the reference sample with the purchase record.
Approve alternatives separately
Send the chosen reference, physical colour target and quantity per shade when requesting samples. If the proposed option is unavailable, request a comparison sample rather than authorising any ivory substitute. Ask the supplier to confirm the offered variant and sample relationship in the quotation. Colour approval does not also approve composition, care or order conditions; record those separately.
