Describe colour and finish separately
Black is a colour family, while matte and glossy describe appearance. A trim can contain several visible finishes in one design: quiet thread, reflective beads and a different-looking ground. Name which part should be subdued and which may shine. This makes a sourcing brief more precise than asking for the blackest trim or assuming that every black option has the same effect.
Compare at the same angle and distance
Place both samples on the actual garment fabric and photograph them together. Include one broad view and a short moving view under the same light. Change the viewing angle rather than digitally darkening one image. Decide whether contrast against the base cloth is intentional. A bright edge in one photograph may be a reflection, so do not approve a finish from that frame alone.
Use a physical finish reference
Keep a labelled sample of the approved option with the image number and garment fabric. If the order includes different black references, review them side by side before confirming the combination. Do not translate an appearance preference into an unverified performance claim: a glossy surface does not establish material type, abrasion behaviour or cleaning suitability. Ask those questions separately for the chosen item.
Make the enquiry specific
Add the references and selected photographs to your enquiry, stating the intended location and required quantity per option. Describe the desired balance between thread, beads and backing. Ask which sample represents the proposed bulk variant. Approve substitutions only after another visual comparison; a similar black name or catalogue thumbnail does not show that the finish remains the same.

- Side-by-side photographs without separate edits.
- Approved sample and substitution decision.
