Separate shade matching from colour transfer
A trim can look well matched on arrival without answering how its colour behaves in contact with another component. List the exact trim colour, base fabric, lining and nearby light-coloured parts in the intended garment. Do not use a photograph of a black border on white paper as evidence of colourfastness. It is a visual reference, not a performance report.
State the intended use and care
Tell the supplier and garment team what use and care the finished item is intended to support. Ask which component information or relevant test evidence is available for that situation. A result for another colour or another material combination should not be silently applied to your order. Keep missing care details open until the responsible parties have agreed how they will be assessed.
Agree the evidence before approving a claim
If your customer needs a defined colourfastness requirement, identify the applicable assessment with a qualified testing provider or the responsible technical team. Record the sample identity, method and acceptance basis they agree. Informal wet-cloth or rubbing demonstrations are not substitutes for a specified test. This article does not supply a test method or a universal pass threshold.
Keep the assessment tied to the order variant
Attach the agreed evidence reference to the selected trim and garment combination. In the enquiry, ask which questions remain unresolved rather than requesting a blanket guarantee for every catalogue colour. If the colour, backing or intended care changes, review the evidence again. This keeps the sourcing decision based on the actual item without promising behaviour that has not been established.
